Charles Wright Academy proudly announces that Crysta Swarts-Gillison will join the faculty as International Programs Director

“Crysta’s educational philosophy reflects learning as a joyous, essential, and lifelong process, which keenly aligns with Charles Wright Academy’s mission and values. In addition, her dedication to kindness for all, building capacity in others, and fostering community will be a huge asset in her new role,” noted Susan Rice, CWA Head of School. 

Most recently Ms. Swarts-Gillison was the Dean of Students at Riverstone International School in Boise, Idaho where she developed programs and curriculum to support student growth and development. In addition, she has held teaching positions at schools in California, Idaho, and Washington. 

Ms. Swarts-Gillison holds a bachelor’s degree in English from James Madison University and master’s of Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Washington. She also holds a certificate in Education in Environment & Community from IslandWood and has studied with the International Institute of Restorative Practices.

I’m particularly excited about joining CWA during a time of change, in the school, our country, and the world as we all come to deeper understandings of the work to be done around diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging,” said Swarts-Gillison. “I believe that schools have a responsibility to be leaders in their communities, modeling growth, inclusion, and true collaboration. I’m looking forward to joining CWA as we make wonderful things happen!”

Ms. Swarts-Gillison’s previous residence hall experience with international students will help her support host families and CWA international students. She will be teaching English for Academic Purposes, as well as a section of Upper School English.
