Charles Wright Academy Celebrates Black History Month
February 1, 2023
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by Black Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in US history. Although it started as just a week, President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month in 1976. He called upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”
Although we are highlighting Black History during the month of February, here at Charles Wright we recognize that Black history is American history.
Did you know that each year there is a theme for Black History Month? This year the theme is “Black Resistance.” Click here to learn more.
